Collaborative Scientific Focus Groups

Over the past year AMDeC has established and/or expanded member-specific Collaborative Scientific Focus Groups in scientific areas of interest for the membership.  Through these groups, AMDeC advances many collaborative goals.

- Promote increased communication across member institutions

- Actively engage members in the sharing of resources, expertise, and costly technology

- Identify new platforms for collaborative research projects

- Establish New York State as a leader in science and biotechnology in emerging disciplines

The groups boast impressive academic credentials, as evidenced by the institutions participating.  Collective progress can be observed in the collaborative connections being established around mutual research interests and resource needs, and the strong interest in developing common standards and best practices.

Currently, AMDeC facilitates three primary groups, in addition to several sub-groups:

Genomic Analysis and Technology Excellence (GATE) Focus Group
Established to focus on issues pertaining to next-generation sequencing technologies and applications. The initial advisory group agreed that a series of working groups be formed to help facilitate the overall efforts of the larger community.

Proteomics Focus Group
Established to increase communication across member institutions, and coordinate and facilitate access to proteomics instrumentation and core/resource facilities across institutions. Guide AMDeC’s vendor partnership initiative and promote educational workshops/speaker series.

Core Facility Directors Focus Group
Established to increase communication across member institutions, identify new platforms for joint research, and promote institutional sharing of scientific resources, high technology services, and management practices.
